Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Cappele.
Nicholas, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I returned to Arizona in 1990 after living & working as a Designer in New York City for 10 years. To get myself re-established I started working at various salons around the Valley to build a client base & it was six years later I started my Interior Design practice. I developed a strong referral base with most of my clients being attorneys. I was extremely busy working with three sets of contractors to handle the load. I have been published in The Arizona Republic & Phoenix Home & Garden showcasing my work.
It was just before the economic crash in 2010 when I was hired by a local divorce attorney to design her new space using my knowledge of Feng Shui & the use of Bio-philia in the design process. It was the success of this project that prompted my client to challenge me to write a book.Being that the market had slowed down I took a year off, hired an editor & coach and wrote my book “Altared Space”. My coach enrolled me in a program to compete with other authors around the country where 100 were chosen to fly to NYC to have the opportunity for a 30-second “pitch” to the major Tv & radio networks.
Although I didn’t land a gig on Good Morning America I did have several radio interviews as well as taking my book to Best Seller on Amazon.!It was my coach who encouraged me to develop the essential oil line I created for the design project to help support the knowledge I was teaching in the book. Since that day I have now five Aromatherapy collections and am working with local wellness businesses that use my products in their service.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly has been a learning experience… Unlike the design business where you were paid for your “vision” in putting a project together. This has had its challenges in being responsible for not only conception, composition, design, packaging as well as producing now over 130 products by hand.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about H2E AROMATHERAPY – what should we know?
My original concept of H2e (Heaven to Earth) Aromatherapy was to create healing plant essences to help people to stay centered and calm in a world of chaos. I started with the Chakra Collection which focuses on the body’s energy system. I was challenged by a fellow artist who was suffering from cancer & radiation burns on her hands to develop a lotion- cream to alleviate her open wounds & pain. I had an Aveda salon for seven years so I was versed on natural plant compositions.
I took the challenge interviewed 46 Artists, men & women with various skin conditions & found a US company that produced paraben free bases where I was guided by the biochemist to which base would help alleviate the particular symptoms and it was then when my Spa Collection was created. At the end of the day, the most gratifying part of this business is the feedback from individuals when they experience my products. One of the things I do at the markets is really listened to peoples stories and if there is a particular request or need I try my best to create a product that will be of benefit.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance for starters, keeping it positive as much as I can, & learning to listen to & trust my inner voice.
